Robert Melvin

BELFAST– Robert George “Bob” Melvin, 81, passed away December 8, 2016, surrounded by loved ones. He was born October, 3, 1935, in Fairfield, the son of Floyd W. Melvin Sr. and Mildred (Nickerson) Melvin.

Bob graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1953. He then served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-1957. He worked for National Fence Company as a superintendent and for Downeast Associates as a superintendent. Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belfast where he was a Deacon for a number of years. Bob met Rose, the love of his life, at the Blue Goose. They were happily married in 1961. Even after 55 years of marriage they could still be caught slow dancing in the kitchen. Bob enjoyed lobstering, building bird houses, gardening and having breakfast with his friends. He loved camping with his family and sitting around a campfire telling stories. Bob has been on dialysis since the age of 53. He had more than nine lives as he overcame many complications.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert Melvin II and wife Andrea, and their children, James and Emily, of Marstons Mills MA, a daughter, Rebecca Bureau and husband Jim, and their daughter Hannah, of Alton, NH; brother, Floyd Melvin of Bangor; sisters, Florence Ross of Bangor, and Ruby Driscoll of Gorham; Brother/sister in law Tom and Joan Stephenson and many special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by brothers, Walter Melvin, Richard Melvin, and Ernest "Tinker" Melvin, and sisters, Carolyn Sadlowski and Virginia Rice.

Special thanks to Dr. Pathak and the nurses at Togus Medical Center for 20 plus years of friendship and care. Also, a thanks to Dr. Vannorsdall, the staff at the Belfast Dialysis Center and hospice.

A celebration of life will be held January 7th at 1pm at the First Baptist Church of Belfast, with Rev. Forester Williams, officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Swanville, at a later date. The family invites relatives and friends to share in conversation and refreshments at the church immediately following the service.
