Robert C. “Bob” Simpson
Bangor
Robert C. “Bob” Simpson, 82, husband of Mary Lou (Webb) Simpson, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 17, 2015, with his family by his side. Born in Bangor, June 9, 1932, he was the son of Carl C. and Gertrude P. Simpson.
Bob graduated from Bangor High School where he was a basketball and baseball standout and a member of the 1950 BHS Eastern Maine championship basketball team. He was nicknamed "Jughead" after a water jug fell on his head on the bus ride to the state championship game. After high school he attended MCI in Pittsfield where he was also a basketball standout. Bob retired from the Masury Paint Co. after having had a successful career in sales for many years.
Bob was an excellent golfer and member of the Penobscot Valley Country Club for many years. There he had won the Club Championship, Presidents Cup, the State Two-Ball championship, scored a hole in one and was a member of the Board of Directors. He was a Shriner in the Anah Temple Horse Patrol, which was founded by his father. He was also a member of the Bangor Jaycees. One of his favorite involvements though was being a part of the hunting group called the Sabao Rum and Dum Club, which included some of his lifelong buddies. He enjoyed taking trips with his wife back in the Shrine days and enjoyed their 25 years they spent in the winters in Florida and the special friends they made there.
He was an avid New England sports fan as he would always be watching the Redsox or Patriots, but watching the golf matches was his favorite. Bob enjoyed gardening as he always had a large garden when they had their home of 40 years on Essex St. Most of all he loved shooting hoops with his grandchildren and taking them for tractor rides through the back field. They gave him the nickname "Grumpy". Bob loved his family very much and was extremely proud of all his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Lou, son T.J. Simpson of California, son Steve Simpson and wife Joyce of Bangor, son Rob Simpson and wife Nancylee of New Hampshire, daughter Christi Robertson of Bangor, sister Jackie Cortis of Florida, sister Cathy and husband Scot Ford of Nebraska, brother in law Bill Webb and his wife Jeanette of Bangor. His eight grandchildren, Evan Cooper, Christopher and wife Anna, Ryan, Marc, Scott, and Connor Simpson, Sarah and Samantha Robertson, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Carl H., and his son Philip.
The family would like to thank the nurses at EMMC for his special care they gave him, especially the ICU.
Services in celebration of his life will be held at a date and time to be announced later.
