Hampden - Robin Spencer-Laurie, 56, passed away peacefully September 6, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 17, 1959 in Castine, to Leslie and Eliza (Small) Spencer. She is now with her daddy and brother. Robin was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when she was 2 ½. She was able to have a fairly good life until 5 years when many health problems began, resulting in her selling her business, Spencer Insurance Agency. Robin graduated from Deer Isle-Stonington High School in 1977, and went to Husson College, graduating with a B.A. in legal Administration. After graduation, Robin worked for a number of people, Don Lord and Emily and David Hawkins. Her next venture was opening the Spencer Insurance Agency in 1990 and successfully ran it for 25 years. She was President of the Woman’s Insurance group, organized arthritis walks for 10 years, NAIW-Maine State Director 2000-2001, Insurance woman of the year, 1999, 2000 and 2001. AAMGA achievement award in 2005. Robin is survived by her dear husband of 7 years, Tracy; mother Eliza; sisters Roxanne and her husband Francis and Teena and her companion, Leland; nephews, Anthony, Vinny, Thomas and Timothy; niece and Goddaughter Elizabeth; great nieces Brianna and Claudia; great nephew Jayden; Many Snowden and Spencer relatives. Tracy’s father, brother, four sisters and many nieces and nephews. Stepsons, Nicholas and his wife Corinna and step grandchild, Landon and stepson, Randy; her dog, Emma and her cats Mya and Toby. She was predeceased by her father, Leslie and brother Tinker; grandparents; Tracy’s nephew Tyler; mother-in-law Sarah and special aunt Suzanne.
While a patient at Stillwater Care Center, she met several special people. After leaving the Center, we would either stop by or they would come say hi. “Thank you for that”. Robin donated her body to Harvard Medical School, so that her body can be studied in order to help find a cure for rheumatoid arthritis. A service to celebrate Robins life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday September 12, 2015 at the Deer Isle Congregational Church, 57 Church St, Deer Isle with Alice Hildebrand and Amy Vaughn, officiating.
