WINTERPORT - Roger D'Errico, 84, passed away surrounded by family February 24, 2020, at home. Roger was born September 20, 1935, in Brooklyn, NY, home of his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers. Roger was the son of John and Dina (Colucci) D'Errico.
Roger graduated from Midwood High, class of 1955. One year later, he met his sweetheart of almost 61 years, Frances Matyas. After attending drafting school, Roger served with the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. Inspired by his brother Peter's glowing review of Vacationland, years later, Roger and Fran settled in Brewer to raise their family. Roger worked at the Bangor Post Office as a mail clerk for his 31-year career.
Roger taught his children valuable lessons including how to ski, fly fish, and parallel park (which some of them still attempt to do when no one is looking!)
Like all good Italians, Roger enjoyed all things involving sausage. He also loved 50's doo-wop music, Snickers bars, an ice cold Mich Ultra, holding his wife's hand, and watching his granddaughter's performances. Not necessarily in that order.
Other than his wife, one of Roger's biggest passions was Atlantic Salmon fishing as a Registered Maine Guide on the Penobscot River. He was a loyal member of the Eddington, Penobscot, and Veazie Salmon Clubs, as well as Trout Unlimited. One of the highlights of his fishing career was achieving his longtime dream of fly fishing on the Miramichi (although those slippery salmon evaded him that trip!).
In retirement, Roger also enjoyed his time as a Civil War Re-enactor with the 20th Maine Company B which included several trips to Gettysburg's battlefields.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers John D'Errico, and wife, Janice; and Peter D'Errico, and wife Catherine. Surviving are his wife Frances (Matyas) D'Errico, his son, Scott, and wife, Tammy, of Texas; his daughter, Tracey Ristich, and husband, Alex, of Nevada; and daughter, Michele Campbell, husband, Sundance, one treasured granddaughter, Emma of Winterport; in-laws, Dorothy Udell, and husband Norman of New York, and Sam Matyas and wife, Collette, of California; as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
