Roger Boardman Trask, 97, lived his life to the fullest until his death at the Maine Veteran's Home on November 21, 2016. He was born December 14, 1918, in Bangor, to Boardman A. Trask and Geneva (Saunders) Trask.
Roger graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1936, and the University of Maine, class of 1940. After working briefly in Connecticut upon graduation, he entered the Army in 1941. During the next 4-1/2 years he served in Iceland, England, France and Belgium participating in the invasion of continental Europe. In 1945, he married Maxine Knights of Brewer, and they were happily married for 53 years until her death in 1998. He and Maxine enjoyed traveling and visited most all of the United States and many European countries. They enjoyed summers at Beech Hill Pond in Otis, and winters in Florida during retirement. He worked for New England Telephone Co., retiring in 1978. He was a trustee and deacon of First Congregational Church of Brewer, member of Bangor Toastmasters and Camera Club, District Camping Chairman for Katadhin Area Boy Scouts Council, member of Ralph J. Pollard Lodge AF&AM of Orrington, Past President of Eastern Maine Chapter of Maine Society of Professional Engineers, and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from Boy Scouts of America.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Maxine, two sisters and one brother. Survivors include a son, Gary of Beech Hill Pond, with whom he enjoyed many hiking, canoeing, camping and fishing trips, and his wife, Gail; grandchildren, Sara and her husband, Aaron Saunders of Lakeland, Fl., Eric of Wesley Chapel, Fl.; great-grandchildren, Emerson and Fallon Saunders of Lakeland, Fl.; daughter, Brenda of Astoria, Or.; his second wife, Esther B. Whitney of Brewer; and nephew, Merrill Trask and wife, Shirley of Otis.
A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced in the spring of 2017 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings Smith, 55 South Main Street, Brewer. Interment with military honors will be held at the Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport.
