Bangor and Mars Hill, Maine - Ronald Gerald Boyd, 94, was called home to Glory on March 5, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was born May 21, 1929, in Mars Hill, Maine, the fifth child of John E. “Jack” and Katie E. (Drost) Boyd. He married Gertrude Doris Edgecomb, August 6, 1948. They settled in Mars Hill and enjoyed 72 years of marriage together before she entered her eternal rest.
Ronald worked for 31 years at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine. During his retirement, he continued to work as a master electrician and do telephone work throughout the local area. Ronald attended Mars Hill Full Gospel Assembly for many years where he served in various capacities.
Ronald’s favorite place on earth was the camp he and his sons built on Brackett Lake in Weston, Maine. He considered it a blessing to live there in his later years and attend Calvary Gospel Assembly in Danforth, Maine where he continued to serve his Lord and Savior. In his final years he lived in the Bangor area where he was closer to family. Daily he took pleasure in watching his great grandchildren play in the yard and giving them Oreo cookies or a sweet snack he had prepared especially for them. Ronnie truly cared about people and enjoyed handing out the “ticket to heaven” tract he designed explaining salvation. He is rejoicing now that “the Master Conductor” has punched his ticket and he has reached his final destination in heaven.
Ronald is survived by his two sons, Gary and wife, Sherry, of York, and Wayne and wife, Leslie, of Holden. He is also survived by three grandsons, Stephen and wife, Meg, of Connecticut, Chad and wife, Lang, of California, and Jonathan of Old Town; three granddaughters, Melissa and husband, Jonathan, of Massachusetts, Lindsay and husband, Andrew, of Bangor, and Heather and husband, Kevin, of Indiana.
In addition, he is survived by twelve great grandchildren, one sister, Ilean Burtchell of Westfield, and many special nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Norris, Wallace, and Arnold; sisters, Lillian, Eva, and Olga.
A celebration of life for family and friends and a private graveside service will be held at a later date.
