ROSALEEN MARIE MCKINNEY (MACGILLIVARY)
BANGOR – Rosaleen M. McKinney, 84, died unexpectedly December 15, 2018, at her home.
“Rosalie” was born April 6, 1934, in Paget Parish, Bermuda, the daughter of John David and Maria Francis (Lehay) MacGillivary.
She traveled extensively before settling the latter part of her life in Bangor. She grew up in Paget Parish, Bermuda attending Mount Saint Agnes Academy in Hamilton, Bermuda and studying at Alamogordo Community College (New Mexico). Married to Duaine E. McKinney of New Hampshire, Ohio, “Rose” as she was known to her U.S. friends, was a career civil servant retiring from the Farmers Home Administration in 1994.
An avid reader, collector, and intellect, she had a passion for Ireland, Scotland, constellations and their stars, and current events. Fiercely independent, she was a gentle soul with a feisty spirit, with a love of animals most especially cats and horses who as a young lady enjoyed riding bareback on Bermuda’s beaches. The past few summers, she was thrilled to attend her granddaughter’s competition riding in area horse shows with Parker. She also enjoyed her time with Cameron and Mark Kunesh and their girls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duaine and their daughter Kathleen Anne. She is survived by her loving sister, Flora C. Perks of Devonshire, Bermuda, and three children, Roy McKinney and Malinda of Windham, ME, Debi Smith of Burkburnett, Texas and Wayne McKinney of Hallowell, ME. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Anne M. McKinney (Larry Salls) of Prospect, ME, Joseph McKinney (Holly) of Wyandotte, Michigan, Michael Smith of Wichita Falls, Texas, Amber Smith of Burkburnett, Texas, and six great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Amy and Mark Goodwin for their friendship and assistance over the years.
At Rose’s request, a private family burial at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery will take place in the Spring of 2019.
Those wishing to remember Rose in a special way, may contribute in her memory to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave., Bangor, ME. 04401.
