Rowena Oliver

February 21, 1929 — November 6, 2024

Bangor - Rowena (Paine) Oliver, 95, passed away on November 6, 2024. She was born on the Paine family farm, on Ellis Flats in Madison, Maine, on February 21, 1929. She was the fifth child of Seth and Ella (Churchill) Paine. Rowena loved telling stories about growing up on a dairy farm and how much she admired her mom, who worked tirelessly to raise her and her siblings after her father's passing.

Rowena married the love of her life, Dwight, in 1948. Even though he passed away in 1970, she continued to wear both of their wedding rings throughout her life. The hard-working nature of her mother was passed on to Rowena, who worked at Eastern Maine Medical Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 25 years before retiring. She took great care of her patients and would enjoy running into them years later and catching up.

When she wasn't working, she might be found raking in the yard or tending to her flowers. Roro, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved her family more than anything else in this world. She could often be found boasting about how fortunate she was to have such a wonderful family. To be loved by her, was to be loved unconditionally. One of the things she always looked forward to was hosting family dinners, that she would start preparing for days in advance. The menu always included her famous yeast rolls, homemade applesauce, and, of course, something sweet to satisfy her sweet tooth.

Rowena is survived by her only son, Craig Oliver and his wife, Sandi, of Hermon; her granddaughters, Michelle Henderson and her husband, Josh, of Hermon, and Amy Oliver-Stubbs and her husband, James, of Hermon; four great-grandchildren, Dillon, Nathan, Amaya, and Zane; and ex-daughter-in-law, Jean Oliver, of Levant. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Dwight; and her siblings, Raynold, Peter, Celia and Gerald.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Sunset Cemetery, Fahi Pond Road, North Anson, Maine. In lieu of flowers, and to honor Rowena's love of cats, please consider donating to the Animal Orphanage of Old Town, 71 Airport Rd., Old Town, ME 04468, in her memory. The family would like to thank the staff of Northern Light EMMC and St. Joseph's Hospice for their compassionate care of Rowena. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
