Rowena M. Varney, 97, passed away peacefully October 28th, 2022. She was born February 21st, 1925, in Brewer, the daughter of Leroy Marsh and Austina (Nichols) Marsh.
Rowena was born and raised on the Green Point road in Brewer, the 6th out of 8 children. She graduated Brewer High School, class of 1942’. She was a home maker and a mother of two children, and she was always busy helping her kids. She liked sewing, crocheting, crossword puzzles and was YMCA swimmer for 40 years.
She is survived by her two children; Karen Varney and her husband, Tom O’Neal; and Vicki Varney and her husband, John Schlicher; her grandchildren; Joseph and his wife, Alexis Shaw; and Thomas Shaw. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Alva Varney, who she spent 54 years with before he passed.
Private services will be held at a later time. Gifts in her memory may be made to any YMCA.
