Ruth Mccaughey

Ruth McCaughey (Duley), died on July 20, 2021 at North Valley Hospital in
Whitefish, Montana of natural causes. She was born May 8,1920 in Starks,
Maine, the daughter of William H. and Flora E. Duley.
Ruth graduated from Madison High School, Madison, Maine in 1938 and
continued with her education at Beal Business College in Bangor, Maine, where
she studied stenography and business accounting, graduating in 1939. She
worked for Day's Jewelry Store until 1940 at which time she moved to
Washington D.C. where she was employed at the U.S. Dept of Agriculture as a
Senior Stenographer.
Ruth married the love of her life Nathaniel "Tim" McCaughey in 1942 after he was drafted into the Army during WWII before being " shipped out " to Italy and North
Africa. Tim made the Army his career and Ruth and their children accompanied
him to Germany and to many posts and bases throughout his 25 years in the
military. During much of this time Ruth continued working for the US Department
of Defense and retired at 65. Ruth and Tim enjoyed their retirement wintering at
their home in Florida and summers at their cottage in Massachusetts. They loved
visiting friends and relatives in Maine and spending time with their children and
grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Wright( McCaughey)and partner
Ronald Wright of Whitefish, MT ; her son-in-law Douglas Nyhus ,4 grandchildren,
3 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father Harry Wollersheid
(Wolley); her husband Nathaniel 'Tim" McCaughey; four brothers, Richard,
William and Harold Duley, and Cecil Chapman; three sisters; Florence
Christopher (Duley), Priscilla Plummer (Duley), Maxine Stanley (Duley), her son
Timothy D. McCaughey, granddaughter Alexandra E. Wright. Her daughter
Sharon Nyhus (McCaughey) passed away on February 28, 2021.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-mother and will be
missed so much until we are with her again.
Her ashes will be laid to rest next to her husband and other family members at a committal service planned for June 3 at 11:00 am at Hart Cemetery, Holden, Maine. Condolences to the family may be made at Brookingssmith.com
