Ruth B. Merrill
Hampden - Ruth Bristol Merrill, 85, passed away on September 2, 2016 after a brief illness.
She was born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 28, 1930 to Ruth (Malley) and Clark Bill Bristol. She attended Montpelier High School, Stratford Junior College, Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene, and the St. Joseph School of Practical Nursing.
In recent years Ruth spent her time volunteering with her beloved dog Bri, comforting patients at Eastern Maine Medical Center and greeting troops at Bangor International Airport. She was also known for her talent at the piano, beautiful needlepoint, and door-to-door crocheted dishcloth delivery -- all to keep her busy and “out of trouble.”
In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband John Merrill, her son Robert Bjorn, and her sister Rosemary Bryden.
She is survived by her loving children, Roselind Bjorn Reeves and husband Tom of Pinellas Park, FL, Pamela Bjorn Peck and husband Tom of Frankfort, Preston Bjorn and wife Jeanna of Hampden, and daughter-in-law Laurie Osgood Bjorn of Kennebunk. Ruth was ever so proud of her grandchildren, Liza Cole Foley and husband Jon, Riley Cole, Brittany Cole, Rob Peck and wife Amanda, Ryan Bjorn, Jack Bjorn, and Clark Bjorn. Nothing made her smile more than pictures and visits from her great-grandchildren, Heath, Kora, Sophia & Natalie. She also leaves behind several special nieces and a nephew, and many kind friends.
Relatives and friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 9th, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden.
