Ruth Rooney

Ruth A. Rooney, 74, passed quietly from this life with her God and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 18, 2022.

Ruth was born September 7, 1948, in Caribou, Maine. Her parents were Harvey Bishop and Elizabeth (Hagerman) Bishop. She was raised in Presque Isle and graduated from High School in 1966. Ruth graduated from Husson College in 1968.

Ruth worked in the business offices of an insurance company and a trucking company before her marriage to Marim Rooney on May 21, 1971. Ruth worked with devotion to her home. Her children, Anne and Lisa, and to her church and community in Presque Isle.

In 1990 Ruth and Marim moved to Hermon, Maine where their daughters finished high school and college years. Ruth volunteered at EMMC for 11 years. She served in various ministries at East Orrington Congregational Church for the remainder of her life. Some of her favorite activities were gardening, bowling, jigsaw puzzles and reading.

I wanted my life to show forth the glory of the Lord in the progression of my journey. Integrity was far greater than riches or celebrity. Serving in ministry was of great importance in my life. Ministering to the sick and dying and to the wounded was my calling.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Marim Rooney; daughters, Anne Violette and Lisa Rooney; grandchildren, Avery, Jaspar, and Chase; a sister, Mary Whitehead and husband Bob; a niece, Angela; a nephew, Aaron. She was predeceased by her parents in 2005 and 2008.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the East Orrington Congregational Church, 38 Johnson Mill Road, Orrington, with Rev. Carl Schreiber, presiding. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the fellowship hall following the service. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
