BANGOR - Ruth S. Shepardson, 98, died after a brief illness March 11, 2021, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born February 12, 1923, in Paris, Maine, the daughter of Austin P. Stearns Jr. and Ida (Lowell) Stearns.
Ruth grew up on the family farm, one of 10 children. She married Arno Shepardson in 1945 and they raised three children: Julie, Roger and Sally. Ruth taught high school home economics at Milo High School and supervised work in the cafeteria at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. She was active in the Parent Teacher’s Association and various women’s clubs, a Girl Scout Leader and a member of the United Methodist Church in Milo and Bangor. Ruth was an avid reader and Red Sox fan, loved working on picture and crossword puzzles and in her garden, listening to the Bangor Band, eating ice cream and lasagna and sewing. For many years, she sold her home made crafts at local shows.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Arno; brothers, Roger, Harry, and Hubert Stearns; sisters, Lura Smith, Mary Durgin, Isadore Stearns and Frances Davis. She is survived by her children, Julie Brownie and her husband, Dale, of Stetson, Roger Shepardson and his wife, Chrystie, of Oneonta, New York, and Sally Shepardson and her husband, Jonathan Leonard, of Salem; grandchildren, Suzy Shepardson, of Staten Island, New York, Lynne Anderson of Oneonta, New York; great granddaughter, Jade Anderson of Oneonta, New York; sisters, Isabelle Foss, of Temple and Virginia Barden, of Lisbon Falls; and many nieces, nephews, and their children.
