BANGOR – Ruth (Gray) Tozier, 84, born April 14, 1938, the daughter of Mary (Jones) Gray and Dr. George C. Gray, passed away at home surrounded by family December 16, 2022. Ruth was born in Bangor and raised in Corinth, the oldest of two girls.
Ruth enjoyed life to the fullest, making everyday count. She built her life with her husband of 64 years, Paul L. Tozier. Knowing each other for a total of 69 years, they built a life together working hard not only in their careers, but after work as well, building a landscaping company that still exists 40 years later to this day. After retiring she and Paul went full time into landscaping, which fueled her love for gardening and maintaining properties. Besides gardening, Ruth loved her family, birds of every type (including the crows she fed daily), work, and also a huge love for horses. Ruth’s heart was deeply powered by her loving son, Thomas P. Tozier. She and Tom had a bond that was beautiful and unbreakable, being her and Paul’s only child, he was her world. After her son had children, Ruth became the best grandmother in the world “Mimi” to her grandson, Brandyn T. Tozier and her granddaughter, Logan J. Tozier. Ruth loved her grandchildren with all of her heart, teaching and caring for them in any and every way.
Ruth became a registered nurse in 1963. She started school in Detroit Michigan and soon heard of a new four-year nursing program starting at the University of Maine, Orono. Ruth returned to attend the University of Maine program, graduating with her BSN. After graduation she started her career at Eastern Maine Medical Center, initially helping open and organizing as the Facility Administrator at the Ross Home and Eastern Maine Medical Center Main 5. As time went by, she was eventually asked to run Ross Manor, which she did as a Facility Administrator until she retired after 38 years with Eastern Maine Medical Center in 2001.
Ruth was predeceased by her idol which was her father and her loving mother; an aunt she loved, Roberta; and many brother and sister-in-law’s who she spent many years with as a family.
