Sally D. Ward

ORRINGTON - Sally D Ward, 90, died peacefully June 6, 2021, at home surrounded by family. She was born February 18, 1931 in Patten, Maine, daughter of Irma (Hall) and Lawrence Bray.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Ralph H. Ward; and her step-father, Raymond Duffy.
Sally is survived by two daughters, Candace Ward, of Bangor, and Melinda Ward and Keith Ogden, of Dedham; her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth and her husband, David Lang, of Carlisle, Mass., and Constance and husband, Clifton Cox, of Brunson, S.C.; "adopted" daughter, Patricia (Wills) Leathers and her husband, Wayne, and their family; granddaughter, Alyssa Ogden and Matt Cox, and great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Cox, as well as many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Sally was a loving wife, mother, and friend. She was an avid bridge player and especially enjoyed cards with Jeanette, Marilyn, Estelle, Gloria, Marion, and many others. She was also a passionate bird watcher, gardener (especially her summer vegetable garden,) quilt maker, and voracious reader. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, traveling, Maine Women’s Basketball, and the Red Sox and Celtics.
Sally worked as the Office Manager at Dakin’s Sporting Goods in Bangor for many years, and then worked for Wellspring, Eastern Maine Community College and Merrill Bank Trust Department.
The family gives thanks to the caring and knowledgeable staff of Ross Manor Waterman Unit and Northern Light Home Health and Hospice. Special appreciation to Kim Ogden and to Loving Touch in Home Care staff for their compassionate care in Sally’s final days.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Friday June 25, 2021 at Marston Cemetery, Orrington. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments 4-6 p.m. at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, following interment.
