Samuel Hake

November 8, 1946 — September 5, 2020

Samuel Ray Hake, 73, of Seymour Missouri and Eddington Maine passed away September 5th with his wife by his side. We speculate this was possibly to avoid spending the upcoming winter in Maine.

Sam was born in Centralia Washington November 8, 1946 to Edward and Maxine Hake. He was the second of five children. Sam grew up knowing the value of hard work, family and most of all the power of prayer. Sam had a never-ending love for his siblings and cherished every moment with them.

In 1966 he married a skinny girl from Maine (we have pictures to prove that) while stationed at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor Maine. He brought his bride back to Iowa and together they began a 54 ½ year love story. Their life was like a country song filled with kids, dogs and 18 wheelers.

Sam was a life-long over the road truck driver and was proud to be the state of Maine Truck Driving Champion 2 years in a row. This was an achievement he was extremely proud of. Sam was a proud Air force veteran, an honor he proudly shared with his granddaughter Samantha. He was a member and Master Mason at Hazelwood Lodge in Seymour Mo.

Sam devoted his life to caring and protecting his girls. Day or night they could pick up the phone and call him and he always ended each call with I love you. He was the first call early in the morning for every birthday with his rendition of Happy Birthday. He would often make up his own lyrics and sometimes insert the wrong name (usually his dogs). He was bigger than life and our forever hero. If love had been enough to save you Daddy you would have lived forever.

Sam is survived by his loving wife Loreta, his daughters Lorii Fowler and Christii Maquillan. Grandchildren Charity Wilson and husband Aaron, TSgt Samantha Maquillan USAF, Robert Maquillan Jr. and Jessica Coakley. Great grandchildren Elliot and Isaac Wilson and Braden Maquillan. Siblings Gary Hake, Randy Hake and wife Roxie, Nancy Cummins, and Russell Hake and wife Cindy. A special uncle John Hake and wife Cathy. Sam was loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sam was reunited with his grandparents, mom and dad, brother-in-law Ronnie Cummins, sister-in-law Patsy Hake, sister-in-law Kelly Hake, in-laws Rolland and Dorothy Chatfield, Leonard Perkins, and his son-in-law Robbie Maquillan.

There will be a celebration of life Saturday, September 12th at 4:00 pm at the old Seymour Fire Station. Please dress casually because that is what Sam would have wanted. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, masks are recommended. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to “We Honor Veterans”, a program that honors veterans at end of life, CHCS 42 Cedar Street Bangor Maine 04401 attention “We Honor Veterans”.
