Charleston – Sandra L. Hames, 76, passed away June 4, 2017 at a Bangor hospital. She was born September 7, 1940, in Berlin, NH, the daughter of Donald and Eileen (Williams) Gatchell.
Sandy grew up in in Connecticut, where she learned to be a hairdresser. Later she even taught others the art of hairdressing. She was probably better known as a cook at various local restaurants, often feeding her boys’ friends. She actually met her eventual husband when she was working as a waitress. Sandy was a Cub Scout leader, and also helped George with the local 4H club. She loved to travel, cook, and go camping. Sandy will be remembered as a very caring person who always put others before herself.
She was predeceased by her parents. Sandy is survived by her husband of 57 years, George Hames; sons, Randy Hames, Lee Hames, and Jody Hames and his wife, Janet; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Sharrone Garbarino, Jackie LoTempio, Eileen Palmer, Linda Provenzano, Barbara Farnsworth, and Jerilyn Malboeuf; sister-in-law Nora Ashelford; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Helen and Lloyd Buzzell, Sonya and Wayne Mallar, Rose Bessy, Susan Ascencoio, and Debby Marston. Sandy will be especially missed by Buttons, her pet dalmatian.
Services will be private for the family.
