Sandra "Sandi" Sue (Costello) Hennig, 69, of Dedham, ME passed away on September 27, 2022, peacefully at home with family present. She was the daughter of William John Costello Sr. and Madelvn Katherine (Peterson) Costello. She was born on October 19, 1952 in New Haven, CT, growing up in Branford. She graduated from Branford High School in 1970.
She moved to Barnard, VT in 1975 and worked at Gifford Memorial Hospital in Randolph, VT for many years. First in housekeeping, then patient registration, and finally as a Laboratory Phlebotomist. In 1985 she joined the White River Valley Ambulance service in Randolph as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician. In 1994 she became the full-time Ambulance Administrator. In 1997 she worked for Fletcher Allen Health Care at the Satellite Dialysis Unit in Berlin, VT as a Hemodialysis Technician. In 1999 she attended New Hampshire Technical College in Claremont, NH graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2002 with an Associate's Degree in Nursing. After graduation she took on her dream job as a Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. In 2007 she went to work as a travel nurse accepting assignments in Fort Myers, FL and Phoenix, AZ. In 2009 she moved to Maine with her life partner and worked at Eastern Maine Medical Center's Dialysis Unit until retirement in 2016.
She loved her family and pets first and foremost, enjoyed cooking, camping, quilting, planting flowers, reading, and traveling with her partner to destinations across the country including the Outer Banks of North Carolina, as well as Caribbean Island resorts. In her final years her parents moved in with her and she helped care for them which she considered an honor.
She is survived by her life partner of more than 25 years, Loren Thresher, of Dedham, whom she met as a volunteer at White River Valley Ambulance; her father and mother, William Sr and Madelyn Costello, of Dedham; a son, Wesley Hennig Jr, of Claremont, NH; a son, Aaron Hennig, and his wife Kelly of Hartland, VT; a daughter, Rebecca Ricard, and her husband David, of Salem, NY; a sister, Lisa Ewald, and her husband Steve, of Reading, VT; as well as nieces and nephews - Eric, Kristin, Meghan, Ryan, Rylee, and Keegan; and grandchildren Maddy, Chelsea and Hunter and step grandchildren Kendra, Hailey, and David, and step great granddaughter Brielle. She is pre-deceased by her elder sister Cindi Wall and elder brother
William Costello Jr.
There will a gathering of family at a later date.
