Sandra J. McKay, 78, died peacefully, Saturday, November 12, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Bangor on October 27, 1938, daughter of Orrin G. and Elizabeth (Fellows) Berry.
Sandra was a graduate of Bangor High School, class of 1956. She was a long-time valued employee of Standard Shoe Store in Bangor. She was also employed at My Maine Bag and McKay's Lunch.
She was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bangor, the Bangor Policemen's Wives Auxiliary, the Patawa Club, and the Red Hats Society of Bradenton. Sandra was also very active in the Bayshore Windmill Village community of Bradenton.
Surviving is her loving husband of 55 years, Robert (Bob) McKay. She is the beloved mother of two children, Mary B. Mickiewicz and her husband John of Portland; and Robert (Rob) McKay II and his wife Sharon (Pineo) of Bangor.
She has five wonderful grandchildren, she would be the first to tell you, who loved their Grammy very much and will always cherish their memories of her. They include Riley, Quinn and Regan McKay of Bangor, and Paige and Erin Mickiewicz of Portland.
She is also survived by one niece and three nephews. Sandra was also blessed with a large circle of wonderful friends, in fact, anyone who came into Sandra's life was not a stranger for long.
In addition to her parents, Sandra was predeceased by her granddaughter, Gabrielle E. Mickiewicz, and her sister, Dorothy Meyer.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15th 2016, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 16th 2016, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ohio Street, Bangor, followed by the rite of committal at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor.
