SHARON EILEEN MCKINNON
CAMDEN.

Sharon E. McKinnon, 76, died on December 5, 2022, at Windward Gardens nursing home in Camden. She was born on March 10, 1946, in Bangor.

Sharon graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1964 and later attended Westbrook Junior College in Portland. Following graduation, her employment took her to Florida, New York, and Virginia before she returned to Maine where she settled in and became a longtime resident of the Mid-Coast area.

Sharon was predeceased by her parents, George and Hope McKinnon, and her older brother, George Jr. She is survived by her younger brother, Christopher McKinnon and his wife, Maryanne, of Augusta; her niece, Meaghan Elizabeth and her husband, Lucas Newcomb, of Scarborough, and several cousins. She is also survived by her dear friends, Bridget Scally of Springfield, Ohio, Barbara Robinson of Rockland, and the convivial “Sunshine Club” at the Methodist Conference Home in Rockland.

Sharon was a diehard Red Sox fan, steadfast Democrat, and genial bibliophile. She adored her grey, domestic, long-haired cat, Barack. Her letters delighted us with their calligraphical artistry. Sharon’s work life was characterized by diligence and versatility. Explaining her diverse occupational history, she deployed a favorite maxim, “Nothing human is alien to me,” framed in a wry smile. Those closest to her will remember Sharon for her sociability, good humor, generosity, and humility.

Per Sharon’s wishes, there will be no services. Her final resting place will be in Castine, the locus of her fondest memories, a special place that retained its allure throughout her life for its treasured memories of family, childhood, and adolescence and its own unique qualities.
