Sheila T. Stephenson

CORINTH – Sheila T. Stephenson, 75, passed away, surrounded by her family, March 26, 2021, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born May 25, 1945, in East Corinth, the daughter of Benjamin R. and Edith (McGray) Tilton.
Sheila was proud of her Corinth heritage. She was born and raised in Corinth, spending the early years of her life on Puddledock Road, on the Tilton family farm. She graduated from East Corinth Academy, Class of 1962 with the distinction of Valedictorian of her class. She spent much of her professional life as Office Manager for Ben Tilton and Sons.
Renowned for her pie crust, many friends, family and neighbors were blessed with gifts of pies from Sheila. Family and friends share twenty-two years of memories at Pig Roasts at the family farm in Atkinson.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Capt. (Ret.) USAF Thomas Stephenson; brothers, Ben “Jock” Tilton, and Sharland Tilton; and a special nephew, Mike Tilton. Surviving, are her children, Angel Sawyer and her husband, Tom, Randy Tozier and his wife, Dixie; step-children, Tom Stephenson, and his wife, Cindy, Patricia Forrest and her husband, Steve, and Marietta Coulter and her husband, Russell; siblings, Sandra T. McGonagle and her husband, John, Bruce Tilton and his wife, Bonnie, and Sherry Lucia and her husband, Edward. Sheila’s greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, Matthew Sawyer, and Emily Monahan, who lovingly called her “Meme”. Sheila will be greatly missed by her step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who affectionately called her “Favorite Aunt Sheila”. She was loved for her kindness, generosity, and numerous escapades.
Sheila will be fondly remembered by many friends, especially her best friend, Diane “Dinah” Worcester, Janet Speed, Marcia Lancaster, and Valerie Grant.
The family wishes to thank Tammy Sargent and Angie Reeves for their loving care and the laughter and joy they provided to Sheila in her final days at home. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Eric Brown, her family doctor for over twenty years who guided Sheila’s care during her struggle with Alzheimer’s.
The family also expresses their appreciation to the staff of the Maine Veteran’s Home in Bangor for their extraordinary and compassionate care during Sheila’s illness.
Funeral services will be held 11:00AM, Saturday, April 3, 2021, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., following the service. Please be mindful that all Covid-19 protocols will be adhered to during the service.
