BANGOR – Shirley T. Gallagher, 84, died, after a sudden and brief illness, September 20, 2013, at a Bangor nursing home. She was born May 11, 1929, in Ashland, the daughter of Eusebe and Rose (Carney) Thibodeau.
Shirley graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1946, and from Eastern Maine General Hospital, School of Nursing, Class of 1949. She was employed at the Eastern Maine Medical Center for 40 years, in the following departments, ER, Ward L, ICU/CCU, and the renal dialysis unit, and she was a member and past president of the Nurses Union. After retiring, she continued with her nursing skills by taking care of her husband, Harold. Shirley enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harold C. Gallagher Jr.; daughters, Patricia Gallagher Farley and her husband Jesse, of Pearland, TX, and Donna Babcock and her husband Tim, of Glenburn; sons, David Gallagher and his wife Debbie, of Wake Forest, NC, and Charles Gallagher, of Bangor; grandchildren, Kristen Farley, Doug Welch, Matt Welch, Josh Gallagher; special grandchildren Justin Carter and Travis Bickford; great grandchildren, Rylee Welch and Hattie Welch; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by, sisters, Eunice Thibodeau and Lorene Hackett; and brother, Herman Thibodeau.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m., Monday, September 23, 2013, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Parish Hall of St. Mary's Catholic Church, following the interment.
