PORTLAND – Shirley Kepple, 78, died of hemorrhagic stroke on July 8, 2021, at a Scarborough healthcare facility. She was born January 10, 1943 in Portland, the daughter of John Henry and Josephine (Thompson) Candellari. Shirley graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1961. Following graduation, she worked at Zayres, where she met her husband, John Kepple. They were married on September 12, 1964 and celebrated 56 years of marriage this past September. John and Shirley raised their 4 children in Old Town and lived there for 30 years. She worked in different finance positions including teller and bookkeeper. She retired from Treat Falls House in Orono, Maine as their bookkeeper. Shirley loved her children and was heavily involved in all of their activities. She also enjoyed watching their many sporting events. Shirley enjoyed walks, ceramics, spending time with her grandchildren and her sisters. She also loved her pets Nanook, Grimsley, Blossom, Shamus, Zach, and Gizmo. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Ellen, Libby and Marjorie; brothers, Kenny and Leonard. Surviving, in addition to her husband, John Kepple Sr., are her sons John Kepple Jr. and his wife, Stacy, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Todd Kepple and his wife, Dawn, of Litchfied, New Hampshire, and Adam Kepple and his partner, Anna Fivecoat, of Denver, Colorado; daughter, Erin Nicholas and her husband, John, of Windham, Maine; grandchildren, Noah, Owen, Athena, Bryce, Demi, Aiden, Tre, Grace and another grandchild due in October 2021; her sisters, Mary Worcester, of Dedham, Maine, Sharon Clark and her husband, Rich of Orrington Maine, Patty Ankney, of Ohio, Tina Seger, of Bangor, Maine, Irving Spencer of Bangor, Maine; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, following the interment.
