Shirley May (Guay) Morrison, 84, (aka Nana) of Windham, previously of Orono, went to be with the Lord on August 13, 2022. Shirley was born in Bangor on June 21, 1938. She lost her twin brother on the day they were born and spoke of him often. She was married to John Morrison on July 20, 1959, and lost the love of her life on February 17, 2007.
Shirley will be dearly missed by her daughters - Gayle (Don) Mashaw of Daytona Beach, FL; Dawn (Rick) Watts of Franklin, NH; and Bonnie (Tim) Grant of Gray, ME; her 11 Grandchildren - Tiffany, Kris, John, Brian, Daniel, Tim, Elizabeth, Katherine, Michael, Alex, and Melissa; as well as her 15 great-grandchildren. For Mom, family was the most important thing and she loved spending time with family and friends.
Shirley worked in childcare in Orono for most of her life. Those children and their families loved her dearly, making for a very large extended family.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, Bingo, making puzzles, crossword puzzles, and watching Hallmark movies and the Maine Cabin Masters. When she moved to Windham, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She loved cooking and sewing, making aprons, quilts, and masks during the pandemic. She made everything with love and was always excited to give it to someone. She also enjoyed traveling to Florida with her friend Judy.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents, Ralph Sr. & Esther (Bouchard) Guay, her sister Vivian and her brother Dickey. She is survived by her sisters Gloria, Jean and Joan, her brother Sonny, and many nieces and nephews (in particular, Shell and Sarah, who affectionately called her LeeLee). Her extended family also included her Unity Gardens friends, her Church friends (Laurie and her family), and her Orono friends (Carolyn, Bob and Barbara).
The family thanks the Hospice of Southern Maine staff for their excellent care and compassion for Shirley, in particular - Leslie, Lizzy, Erin, Stephanie, Annette and Erica. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Southern Maine at https://www.hospiceofsouthernmaine.org/.
A funeral service will be held on September 24, 2022 at 10 AM, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, followed by a graveside service at Riverside Cemetery, 170 Bennoch Road, Orono.
