Hermon – Stanley Darrell Bowen, 76, died March 6, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. He was born December 4, 1938 in Bangor, the son of Linwood and Virginia (Light) Bowen. Stanley graduated from Hermon High School, class of 1957, and resided in Hermon where he and his wife Carolyn of 46 years raised their family. He worked as a mechanic for Leadbetter International for many years and went on to work for Sunrise Materials, formally known as Cianbro in Orono. Stanley then went on to work for Bangor Hydro Electric Company where he retired after 16 years of service. In addition to being a mechanic, he enjoyed plowing snow for 59 years. Stanley was a member of the Lynde Masonic Lodge #174, Hermon for over 50 years. Stanley was a very hard worker who liked fixing up old things, there wasn’t anything that he couldn’t figure out how to fix and enjoyed lending a helping hand to family and friends. He and his good friend Ellery enjoyed going to auctions and driving their antique tractors in the many parades. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed many years of camping trips.
He is survived by his children, Darrell Bowen and his wife, Laurie, of Levant, Randall Bowen and his wife, Jennifer, of Hampden, Susan Brountas and her husband, Mark, of Bangor, Brenda Byers and her husband, Jeff, of Hermon; eight grandchildren, Craig Bowen and his fiancée Monica Rayot, Nicole Waite, Roxanne and Claire Bowen, Michael Brountas, Katie Nelson and her husband, Kristian, Nicholas and Jillian Byers; two great grandchildren, Carter Bowen and Chase Waite; three sisters, Virginia Gordon, Rita Duplisea, and Carla Leavitt; several nieces and nephews; very special friends, Ellery and Linda Batchelder, and Tim and Joan Schoppe, who would always spend time visiting and bringing food. Stanley was predeceased by his wife Carolyn (Walls) Bowen; two brothers, Raymond and Donald Bowen. The family would like to give a special thank you to New Hope Hospice and Stacy for their caring and support of Stanley. Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 5-7pm Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden with a Masonic memorial service being conducted at 6:30pm by the Officers and Members of the Lynde Masonic Lodge #174, Hermon. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Wednesday March 11, 2015 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith with the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of the Hermon Baptist Church, officiating. Spring interment will be held in the Snows Corner Cemetery, Hermon.
