BANGOR - On November 15, 2022, Stanley E. Gunn Jr., 96, went to his heavenly home which Jesus has prepared for those who believe in Him. He died at his home in Bangor, Maine. He was born February 19, 1926, in Bangor, the son of Stanley Sr. and Mildred (Griffin) Gunn.
Stanley was married to his teenage sweet heart, Marian Grant, for 72 years. He was a member of Columbia Street Baptist Church for most of his life, faithfully attending its services and maintaining its facilities for 30 years. He has been a member of the Pilgrim Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Bangor since 2013.
Stan was a Bangor firefighter at the Central Fire Station until retirement in 1973. He was also employed by Coffin/Wimple Distributors for many years. Stan volunteered thirteen years at China Lake Conference Center as a maintenance man. When living in Florida for ten years, he painted the sanctuary of the Tavares Baptist Church. For many years, Stan would endear himself to people as he would see things to be done and faithfully do them without recognition. Stan served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in Guam, Iwo Jima, 02/19/45 (on his birthday) and China. He trained on Paris Island, South Carolina and San Diego, California.
Stan was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Marian; and brother, Robert K. Gunn. He is survived by his sister, Charlotte Jane Brash and her husband, Harry, of Montgomery, Alabama; his son, Gerald “Jerry” B. Gunn and his wife, Deborah, of Newburgh; daughter, Judith “Judy” Moody and her husband, Steve, of Holden; Great Grampy dearly loved his four grandchildren, Joshua Gunn and his wife, Holly, of Brewer, Caitlyn Gunn, of Bangor, Loralie and her husband, Alan Clark of Georgia, and Meagan and her husband, Daniel Phillips, of Georgia; his seven great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Jillian Gunn, of Brewer, Maine, Benjamin, Abigail and Rebekah Clark, of Georgia, and Jamir and Levi Phillips, of Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor, followed by a Celebration of Stan’s Life at 2:00 p.m., at the Pilgrim Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 375 Mt. Hope Avenue, Bangor with Pastor Stan Griffin officiating. A time of sharing and refreshments will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Those who wish to remember Stan in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Penobscot Christian School, 1423 Ohio St., Bangor, Maine.
