Glenburn – Stephen Robert Straub lost his courageous battle with cancer on February 17, 2014, in a Boston hospital surrounded by his loving family. Steve was born on January 29, 1949, in Sunbury, PA., the son of Robert and June (Slear) Straub. He graduated from Edison High School in New Jersey. Steve enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Wasp and at the Brunswick Naval Air Station. Until his illness Steve was a lifetime welder and was last employed at Lane Conveyors and Drives in Brewer. An avid sportsman, Steve enjoyed hunting with family and friends and was a member of the N.R.A.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Christine; son Craig of Holden; daughter Erica and her husband Aaron Mutty of Holden; mother June Straub of Rocky Mount, Virginia; father Robert Straub of Robbinsville, New Jersey; sister Brenda and her husband Bill Hess of Glade Hill, Virginia; stepfather-in-law, Paul Lister of Calais; Step mother-in-law Joan Dodge of Kissimmee, FL; sister-in-law Ingrid and her husband Richard Morton of Columbia, Maryland; and two nephews. Steve also leaves behind special friends Nancy and Al Emerson and Angie and Maurice Godin. He was predeceased by his grandparents, his mother-in-law Hilda Lister; father-in-law Kenneth Dodge, and special friend Jason Emerson.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 7-9pm Thursday February 20, 2014 at Brookings-Smith 133 Center St., Bangor where funeral services will be held 2:00pm Friday February 21, 2014. Spring interment will be in Glenburn. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith 163 Center St., Bangor immediately following the service.
