Susette Joy

October 1, 1965 — March 10, 2025

Susette Joy, 59, of Old Town passed away on March 10, 2025, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center after a period of declining health. She was born October 1, 1965, the daughter of Alvin (Buster) Joy and Verna (Richards) Joy.

Susette was our angel on earth and the center of our family. She wasn't born with the abilities of many but she taught those who knew her unconditional love with a fun, loving spirit. She was our North Star and we were all happy to follow her. Susette's light will never be diminished and the lessons she taught us will continue as they have for the last 59 years, as she joins Mom and Dad to look over us and continue to guide us.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She is survived by her loving siblings, Jeff Joy and Diane (Cory) Brooks; Her nephew, Cody Brooks and his son Owen; Her niece, Kayla (Tyler) Alexander and their children Everly, Everett and Ezekiel; and her many cousins and special cousins Noreen and Harold White.

Susette from a young age had special friends (Cindy, Kevin, Jimmy, and their families) who were by her side through mutual school and day programs. Susette had a great team of agencies and people around her through the years. We would like to thank: NFI North Case Management; The Children's Opportunity Center; Old Town High School mainstream program led by Ruey, her classroom teacher; Capacita Day Program with Stephanie and Pam who cared for Susette for decades; The Bouchea Center especially Katie and Lorry who cared so deeply and Susette's Bouchea friends and staff; and Getchell, Sweetser, and Legends Residential Agencies who cared for Susette full time for the last nine years. We thank Jane and the lovely ladies of Legends who were angels for Susette.

We thank and love Shari who was her second mom for eight years and was Susette's voice and protector. Susette's roommates, Jenna and Alison who shared their lives together.

We want to thank Dr. Kerry Riker and Joanne, the most remarkable people, who always cared for Susette with such compassion.

In Verna's words, "We are so lucky" which Diane and Jeff say all the time because we are. We have been more than blessed to have Susette and all the people in her life who came together to help and be guided by Susette.
