Sylvia Lord

November 24, 1924 — December 27, 2020

Sylvia M. (Sheridan) Lord, 96, crossed over to Heaven on December 27, 2020, peacefully at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born November 24, 1924 in Newport, the daughter of Lionel A. and Doris M. (Young) Sheridan.

Sylvia graduated from Bangor High School. She was happily married to Clifford Lord for 63 years until his death. In her early years she worked as a secretary and then learned to sew all kinds of commercial upholstery at her home. If you wanted a cover for your boat she made it. Along with a seat covers for cars, boats, snowmobiles, motor cycles, etc.. Sylvia loved camping and fishing. Most of the time she out fished her husband. Sylvia and her husband retired to Florida in 1984 where she enjoyed golfing, having achieved a hole in one 2 different times. More than anything her family was her life and she adored all 5 generations of her family.

In 2018 Sylvia moved back to Maine to be near her daughter. She lived independently at the Ellen Leach Home in Brewer until November of this year. She became a member of the East Orrington Congregational Church and a member of the Smoke Free Singles Group where she met a lot of new friends. She loved going for rides seeing new and old places in Maine Her guilty pleasure was a Mocha Frappe from McDonald’s.

She is survived by her children, Doris Simpson of Bangor, George Lord and wife Bonnie of Newport Richey, FL; grandchildren, Angela Arbo and husband Wayne, Heather DeWeerd and husband David, and Julie Woodside; great-grandchildren, Jesse Cyr and husband Troy, Tyler Arbo, Rachel and Sarah DeWeerd, Timothy and his wife Meghan, Emma and Noah Woodside; great-great grandchildren, Bentley and Ryland Cyr. In addition to her husband Clifford she was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Sheridan (known as Lefty Dean) and Walter Sheridan; sisters, Elena Leighton, Elsie Davis, and a sister Alexandra who passed at birth.

There will be no services at this time. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery, Carmel at a later date. Gifts in her memory may be made to the East Orrington Congregational Church, 38 Johnson Mill Road, Orrington, ME 04474. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
