Sylvia A. Washburn, 85 died after a brief illness, June 13, 2020 at a local hospital. She was born February 22, 1935 in Bangor, the daughter of Francis and Hannah (McVey) Condon. Sylvia attended John Bapst Memorial High School through her Junior year and graduated from Miami Senior High School, Class of 1953. Following graduation she returned to Maine where she began a career working at local businesses including W.T. Grants, Cortell Segal and Merrill Trust. Sylvia met her husband Kenneth Washburn and remained in Bangor to raise two daughters. Throughout her life Sylvia was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Church, actively volunteering in both church and school ministry programs. Sylvia enjoyed attending and hosting numerous gatherings with family and friends, including the women’s breakfast group, summers on Brewer Lake and Madagascal Lake, Labor Day celebrations in Winslow and time spent with Merrill Trust coworkers and friends. Sylvia’s kind, loyal and generous heart touched all who were fortunate to know her. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Kenneth and son-in-law Robert Harrington. Surviving are her daughters, Karen Harrington of Manchester, ME and Michelle Jones and her husband Johnny of Glenburn, ME, sister Mary T. Griffin of Wellesley, Ma, sister-in-law Lois Washburn of Manchester, NH, sister-in-law Alberta Washburn of Orrington, ME and brother-in-law Richard Ellingwood of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Two grandchildren, Johnny and Hannah Jones of Glenburn, ME. Nephews: Donald Griffin, Kurt Griffin, Andrew Washburn, Thomas Washburn (godchild) and David Ellingwood. Nieces: Leslie Pink, Suzanne Griffin Kennelly (godchild), Leslie Washburn, Jane Ellingwood, Jamie Owens and their families. Also surviving, special cousins, Delia Crowley, Chris Pooler, Andrew Adam, Matt Pooler, Mary Barnes, Marylu Lane along with her husband Richard, daughter Andrea Lane and son Sam Lane (godchild), Theresa Tracy, Barbara Constantine and members of the McVey family. Remembered by Robert Harrington II and family, Carol Jane Grover and family, Betty Jones and family, lifelong friends: Marylou and Skip Rist, her very special friend of 41 years Dorothea Munson, Mary Whitty, and her treasured “Larkin Street Family” along with countless other wonderful family and friends.

A Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be held 11 am. Tuesday June 23, 2020 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, face coverings will be required.
