Veazie and Millinocket - Terrence “Terry” R. Lyons, 73, put up a long and courageous battle with cancer and passed away at home with his wife at his side on October 9, 2015. He was born October 28, 1941, in Millinocket, the son of the late William R. and Shirley (McGrath) Lyons.
Terry was educated in the Millinocket Schools. He was an active member of Local Union #152 East Millinocket. Terry was a member of the East Branch Snowmobilers for many years, and a lifelong member of Elks Lodge #1521 of Millinocket. He retired from Bowater, East Millinocket Mill, in 1999 after 40 years of service. He relocated with his wife Mary and moved to Veazie in 2002. Terry was an avid Patriots fan. He was known far and wide for his famous Italian spaghetti sauce that everyone loved. Terry loved gardening and going camping in his fifth wheel and listening to music.
Terry leaves behind his wife of 31 years of marriage and best friend, Mary (Thompson) Lyons of Veazie; a daughter, Debra Kelley of South Carolina; a son, Greg Lyons of East Millinocket; step children, Don Scott and wife Cindi, Michael Scott, Deborah Thompson and husband David, all of Bangor; grandchildren, Angela Smith, Bryan Lyons, Matt Lyons, Christopher Scott, Sam Scott, Anthony Landry, a very special grandson he helped raise, Nicholas Scott, he called his pip squeak; three great-grandchildren; sisters Lynda Tomassi of CT, Ruth Becotte and husband Paul of Lisbon, CT; special uncles, Joe Lyons of Millinocket and James Lyons of Bangor; several nieces and nephews as well as many cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ronnie and David Lyons. The family would like to give a special thanks to Don and Cindi Scott for all they did during Terry’s illness, as well as a special thanks to Dr. David Koffman of St. Joseph Health Care, also Karin, Pat, and Felicia, as well as Jan, and all the crew of New Hope Hospice; and David and Deborah Thompson.
Friends may call from Noon to 1 PM, Wednesday, October 14, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, where funeral services will be held at 1 PM, with Rev. Jan Matter, Chaplain of New Hope Hospice, presiding. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, following the service.
