Theolyn M. Staples

June 24, 1950 — June 12, 2020

Bangor - Theolyn M. Staples, 69, died unexpectedly on June 12, 2020 at a Bangor Hospital. She was born June 24, 1950, in Milo, Maine, the daughter of Marice (Hamlin) and Durward Arnold.

Theolyn graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, where she met her husband of 49 years, Peter. She also attended the University of Maine in Orono, where she completed her bachelors, masters, and CAS. She was proud to be a longtime Bangor teacher and later, a principal in RSU 22 and Bangor, ME, where she touched countless lives, and met many close friends and colleagues.

She enjoyed spending her time reading, gardening, cooking, and being at her camp. Conversations with friends and loved ones, and spending time with her husband and family were a highlight of her retirement years. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and especially her grandchildren; talking politics with Tyler, sharing books with Kamryn, playing “sorry” with Mason, and inventing new recipes with Gabby.

In addition to her parents, Marice and Durward Arnold, she was predeceased by her mother and father in law, Norman and Marguerite. She is survived by her husband, Peter Staples; and their Daughters, Shelly Morin and her husband, Darren, of Hermon, and Allison Kahkonen and her husband, Scott, of Brewer. She also is survived by her siblings, Gary Arnold and wife, Nancy, of Hudson, Janet Libby, Paulette Trafton and her husband, Harold, and Durice Washburn and her husband, Mark. She had four amazing grandchildren, Tyler Kahkonen, Kamryn Morin, Mason Morin, and Gabriella Kahkonen; and many special nieces and nephews.

A quote that Theolyn recently shared by Susan Gale says, “The only things you can take with you when you leave this world, are the things you packed inside your heart.” Theolyn held so much love in her heart, and shared that love, unconditionally, with others.

Due to Covid-19, visitation and burial will be held in private. Those wishing to remember Theolyn in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Team Fishing for a Cure, Champion the Cure Challenge, c/o Northern Light Health Foundation, PO Box 931, Bangor Me 04402-0932.
