Thomas “Tom” Davis Jr., 68, our loving dad passed away peacefully April 3, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor surrounded by what mattered most to him, his loving wife and daughters. He was born in Bangor, the son of Thomas “Ganks” Davis Sr. and Lillian (Estey) Davis. He lived his entire life on the Kittredge Road in Bangor where he resided at the time of his death.
During his childhood, Dad learned to farm at his grandfather’s farm on Stillwater Avenue where the Bangor Mall now stands. It was here that farming got into his blood and never left. Even in Dad’s final years, we all knew that being on a tractor in his fields is what gave him piece of mind. Throughout the remainder of his life, he farmed alongside his father on their farm they built together.
Dad had a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit about him. He always made people laugh and smile even during the most difficult times. The sound of laughter will never be forgotten.
We will never see a Farmall tractor, smell the aroma of fresh cut hay or see Diet Coke without thinking of him. His camp on Williams Pond and watching any and all sports games from high school basketball to any New England sports teams meant the world to him.
Dad proudly graduated from John Bapst High School in the Class of 1966. He started his own business, Davis Oil Company and poured his heart and soul into it. He was extremely proud of this accomplishment.
Dad was involved with his community and served on several committees over the span of many years. He was on the City of Bangor Planning Board, Bangor City Council and served as Mayor of Bangor. He was a member of the Bangor Rotary Club, The Maine State Fair Committee, the Bangor Marsh Management Commission and was head of the agriculture Department of the Bangor State Fair for many years.
Dad married the women he always called his “little sweetheart”, Donna (Smith) Davis on July 26th, 1969. For the past 47 years, they had been the best of friends and have done everything together as a team. We were truly blessed as their children to have witnessed their love and devotion to one another.
Even though Dad is gone, he will live on forever in our hearts. He leaves behind our Grandmother, Lillian, and our mother, Donna, his three loving daughters and their husbands, Tammy and Al Eriksson of Corinth, Bobbi and Paul Hosmer, and Kelley and George Adams, of Bangor; his grandchildren, Kevin, Matt, Whitney, Alyssa, and Chris Eriksson, his name sake and Bud, Tommy Hosmer, and his great-grandchildren Blake and Kinsley Eriksson. We were so blessed to have our children listen to the many stories that their Papa shared with them throughout the years. His grandchildren meant the world to him.
Growing up, all of our friends wanted to be at our house because they loved our parents so much, along the way, Mom and dad added two loving daughters, Martha Brewer of California, and Merrilee Agana of Florida, and six additional grandchildren Alicia and Bethany Agana, Robert Dalton, Carly, and Hannah Sibley. He is also survived by our Aunt Rosemary Fugel, Rick Doll and Patsy Bastey, whom he considered his brother and sister; his loyal and loving dog Rascal and many friends and family who were dear to his heart.
We find comfort in knowing that Dad has gone on to spend eternity with our grandfather, Ganks, with whom he had an undeniable bond. He was also predeceased by his many uncles, a grandson Galen Sibley and his mother-in-law Louise Smith.
We would like to give a special thank you to all of our friends and family who have shared in our memories with our father throughout our lives. We know that he holds a special place in so many hearts and will never be forgotten.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 11, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York Street, Bangor, followed by the Rite of Committal at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. We would like to invite family and friends to share conversation and memories at the St. John’s Parish Hall, following the committal prayers.
