Thomas J. Davis Jr., 81, passed away at home on August 12, 2018, after a well fought battle against pancreatic cancer. He was born in Veazie on June 9, 1937 the son of Thomas J. and Katherine (Smith) Davis.
Tom served his community over the years as an Selectman in the Town of Kenduskeag for 25 years and currently on the Budget Committee and as a Penobscot County Commissioner for 34 years. He also served with the Farm Bureau on the State Board of Directors, Board of Directors of FMHA, FEMA Board, Eastern Maine Development Foundation Board, EMDC Loan Review Committee, Appointed to the State Workforce Board by Governor John Baldaacci, and the CLEO of Northeastern Workforce Development Board. He will be remembered as an involved and hardworking man that enjoyed helping others. He will be sadly missed by his family whom he adored.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Muriel (Elsemore) Davis; daughters, Mary Lord and husband David of Kenduskeag, Mona Spear and husband Alan of Holden, Catherine Tilton and husband Kevin of Orland, Elizabeth Scro and husband Stephen of Louisville, KY, Margaret Sullivan and husband Brian of Rockport, MA, Stephanie Chesley and Jim Geerlings of Holden; son, Thomas Davis and wife Suzanne of Kenduskeag; two sisters, Ann Chadbourne of CA and Katherine Weisendanger of VA, and two men who he loved like brothers, Jack Perry of Hampden and Tony Rush of Benedicta (dec). Tom is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, Dan, Courtney, Whitney, David, Matthew, Elizabeth, Ben, Meagan, Emily, Elise, Ray, Sarah, Michael, Liam, Brigid, Caleb, Catherine, Patrick, Caroline, and eleven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Schlotter and Ellen Birlem; infant sons, Richard and John; a special son Stephen, and grandchildren, Ashley and Miguel.
Friends may call from 5-8 PM, Thurs, August 16, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 AM, Fri, August 17, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York Street, Bangor. Following the Funeral Mass, the family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor.
