Thomas Lynn

May 9, 1953 — September 11, 2015

Thomas Taylor Lynn of Veazie, died at his home on September 11, 2015 surrounded by loving family.
Tom was born on May 9, 1953 in Denver, CO, the son of Robert and Katharine Lynn. He graduated from Collegiate School in NYC, received his BA from Connecticut College and his Masters in Social Work from Columbia University.
Tom grew up partly in Denver and mostly in NYC. He and his family spent their summers in the quiet countryside of Leeds, which fueled a steadfast desire to live in Maine fulltime. In 1991 he moved his young family from Brooklyn, NY to Orono. It was at this point that he began his 25-year career at Community Health and Counseling Services of Bangor. Starting by leading a mobile Crisis Service, he transitioned through the years, holding many positions, most recently as Director of Adult, Child & Family Services.
Tom will be remembered for his wry sense of humor, his love for his family, his caring and giving nature, and his calming presence. He was the go-to person in any crisis. Tom loved sailing, biking, coffee, woodworking, political news, hot sauce and music. He had a uniquely creative spirit and an ability to fix almost anything. Tom was ever devoted to his family as a husband, father, son, big brother, grandfather and uncle. He had a tireless dedication to his work and believed in the good of all people. He was a genuine man with a good heart. We will remember him for a life well lived, for his love and attention, and his playful soul. He will be sorely missed.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Laren, of 36 years; his three devoted children Taylor, Erin, and Maggie; parents, Robert and Katharine Lynn of Scarborough; sisters Sarah and Elizabeth Lynn; brothers-in-law Kevin Kerr and Celoni Espinola; daughter-in-law Katherine Lynn; son-in-law Richard Kirk; two beloved grandchildren Henry Kirk and Charlie Lynn and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He was predeceased by his sister Janet.
Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Tom’s life from 4-6 pm, Friday, September 18, at the Lynn residence, 1367 State St. Veazie. Services will be held at the Leeds Community Church, Leeds, 1-3 pm, Saturday, October 3. Special thanks go to Eastern Maine Cancer Care, and Community Health and Counseling Hospice Services for their support and loving care. Education has been important to Tom, should friends desire, a memorial fund in his honor has been set up for his grandchildren’s education, C/O Laren Lynn, 1367 State Street, Veazie, 04401.
