Bangor - Thomas “Tommy” J. Richard, 75, died May 19, 2021 after a long battle with COPD. He was born May 24, 1945, the son of Clement J. and Leonie M. (Dupuis) Richard.
After graduating from Old Town High School in 1963, Tommy worked at the Penobscot Shoe Company before receiving training and spending 17 years as a topographical draftsman with the James W. Sewall Company in Old Town. His retirement came after spending the next 20 years working as a warehouse associate for Sears in Bangor.
He was active for many years with Old Town Little League coaching the Governor’s teams and proudly winning a city championship in 1980. In 1990 he married the love of his life, Judy (Gray). Tommy and Judy were passionate golfers and would spend time on the green every chance they had. He also enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends. He had a habit of calling everyone a “Pip” and could always be seen holding a large Dunkin coffee. Before hanging up the phone, he would often say “Love ya, kid.”
Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife, Judy, are his son, Scott Richard and family of Vancouver Island, British Columbia; daughter, Caroline Jarrell and family of Florida; sister, Joan Chappelle of Old Town; step-daughters, Michelle Shores and her husband, Craig, of Waterville; Theresa Perry and her husband, Wesley, of East Millinocket; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Rita King and her husband, Jerry, and his brother-in-law, Wayne “Dick” Chappelle.
Relatives and friends are welcome to gather at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Brookings-Smith 133 Center St., Bangor where a celebration of Tommy’s life will begin at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to view a live stream of the celebration may do so by going to BrookingsSmith.com and clicking on the available live tributes icon.
