Vera Gerard

September 20, 1927 — October 23, 2023

Vera M. Gerard passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2023, at her senior residence in Waterville, Maine at the age of 96. Born in Easton, Maine on September 20, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Vitaline Labbe.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Everett J. Gerard, and her son, Dan Gerard, and 3 brothers; Harold, Leland, and Patrick Labbe and survived by brother Roland Labbe and wife, Carol of Okeechobee, Florida.

She was the proud mother of 7 children, son Philip Gerard and wife Jennifer of San Antonio, TX and two sons, Reese and Jett; daughters, Linda and husband Sebouh DerSimonian of Waterville, ME, and children Hasmig, Kohar, Raffi and Vahan; daughter, Gail and husband Harvey Pelovsky of Payson, AZ; daughter, Karen Gerard and daughters Amanda and Alyssa of Jupiter, FL; daughter Denise and husband Bob Reisner of Skowhegan, ME, and children Adam, Aaron and Ashley; daughter, Mary Betts and son Dillan of New Smyrna, FL; and 10 great-grandchildren; Bennett, Brynn, Tsoline, Zabelle, Arev, Estelle, Emerson, Payson, Mazzy and Bella along with several nieces and nephews and an extensive extended family. With steadfast Catholic faith, Vera was ever buoyant, graceful and will be remembered as a loving Wife, Mother, Nana, Yaya and friend to all.

Vera was a fiercely independent woman and had a long career as a Medication Aid starting her career at Borderview Nursing Home in Van Buren, Maine. Her favorite pastime was visiting with her children and grandchildren and longing to hear the telephone ring just to have another chat with one of her beloved children or grandchildren. She cooked and baked with love and her home cooking was worthy of 5 Stars! During harvest time, we would all look forward to our delicious and special homemade whatever surprise for the day packed away with love in our lunchpail to last throughout those long, crisp and tiring days. She would welcome us back home with a beautiful and delicious home cooked meal; ran the bath for us and tucked us in to get ready for another day in the potato fields.

Vera was the Matriarch of the family and provided her children with everything we could possibly need and an unconditional love that will last our lifetimes. She certainly instilled her strong work ethic, supporting and encouraging each of us along our journey to reach and strive for our potential. She will always be remembered for her loving ways, her unconditional faith, her bright outlook on life and her ever present smile that seemed to never leave her angelic face. Rest in peace Mom and know you will be with us always and forever... We are grateful to all the staff who cared for our Mother in her final days at Northern Light Continuing Care in Waterville, Maine. Vera touched the hearts of many and will be forever missed but not forgotten.

Vera requested no services and to rest eternally with her husband, Everett at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Augusta, Maine.
