Verle Lee Drinkwater, 83, passed away April 12, 2022, at a Melbourne, Florida hospital. He was born February 22, 1939 in Hermon, Maine the son of Perley W. and Violet (Moore) Drinkwater.
From birth to the age of 10 he was moved from boarding home to boarding home. At the age of 10 he was sent to “Goodwill Home” in Hinckley assigned to Keyes Cottage. There he learned to work hard and the lessons of life. Verle left Goodwill at the age of 16 to live with his father throughout his high school years, graduating from Bangor High School in the Class of 1958. He married the love of his life; Joan (Martin) Drinkwater in 1968 and that continued to the day of his passing.
He worked throughout his high school years part time as a City of Bangor Public Works employee. Upon graduating he worked for a time with Bangor Tire Co., changing tires on the side walk of Franklin Street. Later owning a number of “gas stations” throughout the Bangor area. Ending his work career as owner of Equipment Depot and selling that business to Brake Service in 1995.
After retirement he and Joan enjoyed many summers traveling the great State of Maine camping and fishing in the spring and summer months while wintering in Florida enjoying golf and making new friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan (Martin) Drinkwater of Orrington and Melbourne, FL; siblings, Vaughn Drinkwater of AZ, Jerry Drinkwater of Milford, ME, Gayle Randolph of MD, Michael Gomez of CA, Martinas Khan of CA; nieces and nephews and many close dear friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family from 10:00 AM to the start of the service. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer following the service.
