Virginia A. (Bemis) Goss, 93, passed away May 6, 2014 in Bangor. She was born May 25, 1918 in Levant, the daughter of Linwood and Avis (Pomroy) Bemis.
Virginia spent much of her life in the town of Levant. It was in Levant that she met and married her husband, Leon Goss, with whom she spent 58 years until his passing in 2001. Even after her husband’s death, Virginia continued the care and upkeep of their house. Even in her late 80’s she was still mowing her own lawn and re-sodding when necessary. Virginia was also a talented knitter and quilter. For much of her life, Virginia was a member of Glad Tidings church until she was unable to attend services any longer.
Virginia is survived by her three children, Larry L. and his wife, Virginia M. Goss and their children, Erin and Stephanie, all of California; Glen J. Goss and his wife, Liz Stang, and their children, Leah and Libby, all of Massachusetts; Jane Haney and her husband, Guy of Orland, and their children, Matthew and wife, Maegan, and their children, Jay and Seneca of Mount Desert, and Sara and husband, Cliff and their children, Stetson and Delaney of Peru; and her brother, Kenneth Bemis of California. In addition to her husband and parents, Virginia was predeceased by her brother, Leroy Bemis.
A graveside service will be held later in the spring at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hermon. The family invites relatives and friends to share in conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center, 163 Center Street, Bangor immediately following the committal. Those who wish to remember Virginia in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association Maine Chapter, 383 US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
