Virginia Miller

July 19, 1918 — April 4, 2016

Bangor and Portland - VIRGINIA (GINNY) ANDERSON MILLER, 97, died April 4th at the home of her daughter after a period of declining health. Born July 19, 1918 in Norway, ME, Ginny was the youngest child of Esther (Tower) and Harold Anderson.
Following completion of high school, Ginny graduated as an Registered Nurse from Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing. She also completed courses at New York’s Poly Clinic and Boston’s Eye and Ear Infirmary.
In 1943, Ginny married Lawrence (Larry) Miller in Santa Barbara, CA, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. After the war, the couple returned to Bangor where they raised their three children.
After years of working with Larry in the family grocery store, Ginny returned to nursing. She loved her work with children in the pediatrics, especially in the Newborn Nursery at EMMC. Ginny retired in 1987.
Following the death of her husband in 1991, Ginny moved to Westbook, ME to be near her daughter. Shortly after her move, Ginny began working as a nanny for Dr. Beth Ackison and her daughter, Alicia Chatterjee. Ginny always said Alicia gave her a reason to live at her time of loss.
Ginny was a warm and loving mother with a keen sense of humor and a quick smile. She was appreciative of everything and everybody. She was proud that she was able to live independently until the last few months.
Ginny is survived by her sons, Richard Miller of Bangor, ME, Ronald Miller and his wife, Marcia, of Gorham, ME, and daughter, Nancy Pickelhaupt and her husband, Charles, of Windham, ME. Grandchildren are Charles Pickelhaupt and wife, Meg, of Winchester, MA, Kathryn Bird and husband, Shane, of Fayetteville NY, and Alex Miller of Gorham, ME. Ginny’s great- grandchildren are Lillian and Dorothy Pickelhaupt, Baylie, Ethan and Abby Bird.
A graveside service will be held 12:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the Beth Israel Cemetery, Bangor with Rabbi Bill Siemers, officiating.
