Walter C. “Chet” Gehan, 81, died after a brief battle with cancer, at a Bangor Nursing Home. He was born June 28, 1941, in Bangor, the son of Walter J. and Vivian F. (Nickerson) Gehan.
Walter graduated from Hampden Academy, Class of 1961. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas where he met and married his wife, Sue Barrett. After his discharge they settled in Orono. They celebrated 58 years of marriage in January. Walter was employed as an electronic technician with FAA for over 40 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Sue (Barrett) Gehan, are his son, Michael D. Gehan and companion, Laurie Gamage, of Elizabeth City, NC; daughter, Mischelle (Gehan) Adams and her husband, Alan, of Hermon; his former daughter-in-law, Jodie A. Umble; his four grandchildren, Alexis M. (Gehan) Fortier, Gabriella K. Adams, Braydon M. Gehan, and Alaina C. Adams; one brother, William M. Gehan; one sister, Debbie R. (Gehan) Barnes, and her husband, James Barnes; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 21, 2022, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1195 Stetson Rd, Exeter, with pastor Stan Griffin, officiating. All are invited to share conversation and refreshments in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Spring interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Orono.
