BANGOR – Waneta Mae (Burby) Booker, 89, died at a local hospital after a brief illness and went home to be with her Lord and Savior December 7, 2018. She was born December 28, 1928 in Grindstone, daughter of Joseph Burby Sr. and Elsie (Bushy) Burby.
Waneta attended school in Grindstone and Medway and graduated from Bangor High School in 1985. She and her husband of 56 years, Reginald, were married at the Essex Street Baptist Church and were co-owners of Mr. Reginald’s Hair Fashion Studio for 20 years. She retired from EMMC in 1992. Waneta was a member of the Essex Street Baptist Church for 71 years and a member of Zonta and Altrusa clubs of Bangor for many years. She was an avid Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots fan and enjoyed watching all their games. Waneta was a loving wife, mother and devoted to her family.
In addition to her husband, Reginald Booker Jr., she was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Elsie Burby and five siblings. Surviving are her four children, Brenda Booker, Bonnie Drew, Larry Booker and Robin Fulcher; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Tona Rogers of Connecticut and Joyce Morrison of Millinocket; many nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1pm Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. Spring interment with be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, immediately following the service, Wednesday.
