Warren E. Smith

August 13, 1936 — June 16, 2022

Warren E. Smith, 85, died June 16, 2022, after years of living with prostate cancer. As per his wishes, he died at home under the compassionate care of hospice and family. He was born August 13, 1936 in East Dixfield, Maine; the oldest son of Erlon W. and Josephine (Foote) Smith.

Warren graduated from Dixfield High, Class of 1955. He joined the United States Air Force where he trained in medical administration. Warren was stationed at Goose Bay Labrador and Dow Air Force Base. Upon completion of service, he used the GI Bill to attend Husson College, where he graduated with a degree in business administration.

While at Husson College, Warren visited Columbia Street Baptist Church where he met his wife of sixty years, JoAnne Delahunt. They married on November 25, 1961 and settled in Bangor, Maine. Warren was an active and loyal member at the Columbia Street church. He served in many positions including church president, deacon, and a teacher for the Men’s Sunday school class. He also enjoyed his time involved with ABCOM (American Baptist Churches of Maine).

After Graduation, Warren worked for the GAB (General Adjustment Bureau), then for Travelers Insurance as a claims adjuster. His integrity, personality, and work ethic were noticed by business owner, Richard Bradford. Warren joined his insurance and real estate business (in Orono) and never left. He achieved his GRI- levels I, II, and III. Warren became co-owner of the business and merged with the Dawson Company. He truly enjoyed the relationships he made with coworkers and clients. He retired at the age of 80.

Warren was an avid sports fan, although, he favored baseball. In his last months, he often shared a fond memory: the story of being voted MVP of the baseball team his senior year of high school. He was a left-handed pitcher whose skill contributed to the team winning a crucial game. His teammates carried him off the field in celebration!

Surviving in addition to his wife, JoAnne Smith, are his son, Michael Smith, of Bangor, ME; daughter, Terri Brackens (Russ), of Collierville, TN.; daughter in law, Tracey Smith, of Hampden, ME; six grandchildren (and spouses); one great grandson; brother, Lendall Smith (Sherrill), of Illinois; sisters-in-law Marcia Smith and Eileen Delahunt; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Warren was predeceased by his brother, David W. Smith; by his son, David E. Smith; and his brother-in-law, Harry E. Delahunt.
