Warren S. Rushton, 88, passed away quietly on Sunday September 26, 2021. He was born in Lowell, MA November 17, 1932 to Stanley and Dorice Rushton.
Warren grew up playing two of his passions in life, baseball and golf. He pitched and played infield on the Lowell American Legion team and cemented his love for baseball and the Red Sox… Golf would become the game that he played with passion and excelled throughout his life. He went to school in Lowell and at Mount Hermon prep and then on to Lowell Technological Institute where he majored in Chemical Engineering. While at Lowell he lettered for four years on the golf team and was team captain for two years. He also met his best friend and future wife during this time, Carol Johnson. They were married for 63 years.
After graduation he pursued his career in the coatings and paper industry and was drafted into the Navy. He took great pride in his service to his country while serving on the USS Vulcan AR-5. He picked up with his career in the paper, coating, and laminations industry in Massachusetts after his service in the navy. His career took him and Carol from Massachusetts to Ohio where his three children were born. He became the technical director at St. Regis in Troy, Ohio and earned an MBA at the University of Dayton. In the mid 1970’s he relocated to Brewer, Maine and joined Eastern Fine Paper as VP Technical Services. He enjoyed the Maine lifestyle, pursuing golf at Penobscot Valley CC and all things Maine. Maine became is beloved home for over 45 years.
Warren is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol Rushton of Brewer, his oldest son Kenneth Rushton and his wife Cindy (Bruns) Rushton and three grandchildren Jonathan, Robert and fiancé Kaiti Deddens, Julianne (Rushton) and Bradley Lebling. His second son David and wife Margaret (Bauer) Rushton, granddaughter Anne (Rushton) Shoudy and Jacob Shoudy and was predeceased by his grandson Gregory. Laura (Rushton) and Paul Gutzmer and grandchildren Megan Gutzmer and her fiancé Justin Massey and Lynsey Gutzmer.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 5 to 7 pm. Thursday September 30, 2021 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Face coverings are required regardless of vaccination status.
A graveside service will be held 11 am Friday, October 1, 2021 at Woodlawn Cemetery, North Main St., Brewer.
