BANGOR – Wendy Ann Kavin, 67, passed away on June 10, 2024 at her home in Bangor. She was born June 10, 1957, in Bangor, the daughter of Robert F. and Margaret (Leighton) Spearing.
Wendy graduated from Bangor High School in 1975, where she was in the pep club, chorus, and Stetsonettes rifle drill team. Following high school, Wendy earned her Associate’s Degree in Secretarial Science from the University of Maine at Augusta and moved to Litchfield, where she had three children with her former husband, Peter Kavin. Wendy returned to the Bangor area in 2000, where she raised her three children, became an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Brewer, and worked in Admissions at the University of Maine, retiring after over 22 years there.
Wendy enjoyed trips to the coast and up to camp with her best friend, Dianne Buotte, as well as adventures across the state with close friends from her women’s bible study. She cared deeply for her church community, where she served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, and valued her work community at the University and the friendships she developed there. Above all, she loved and served her family, invested in her children, and reveled in her newest role as Gramma. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her daughters, Rebecca Cousins and her husband, David, of Bangor, Allison Kavin of Hampden; son, David Kavin and his wife Nicole, of Virginia; sister, Lisa Spearing, of Bangor; brothers, Richard Spearing and his wife Betty, of Winterport, Mark Spearing and his wife, Merlin, of Jamaica; and grandchildren Adelynn Kavin, Alexander Cousins, Hailey Kavin, Brayden Kavin, and Lilian Kavin.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, June 21, at Calvary Baptist Church, 61 State St. in Brewer and will be live-streamed on the church’s YouTube page at youtube.com/@calvarybaptist1738. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
