Wilfred Bowden

September 19, 1931 — May 20, 2020

Kenduskeag- Wilfred E. Bowden "Bud", 88, passed away, May 20, 2020 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bangor. Bud was born on September 19th, 1931 to Ford and Nellie Bowden.

After graduating from Brewer High School, he followed a military career path serving first in the Navy, then the Army Reserves, finishing up in the Air Force, where he proudly served 25 years.

In 1956, Bud married the love of his life, Doris (Smith) Bowden. Together, they raised three children,
Dennis, Karen, and Rick. This past December, Bud & Doris celebrated 63 years of marriage.
They resided in Kenduskeag for most of those years, serving as the town clerk and tax collectors.
They were members of the Kenduskeag Union Church, volunteering their time to help with church suppers and the food cupboard.

Bud never knew a stranger in his life. No matter where he went, he would know half the people there. The other half he would know before he left, often bringing out pictures of his beloved family, which he took with him wherever he went. He was incredibly proud of them all.

Bud was an avid University of Maine Men's Hockey fan for more than 30 years, holding season tickets for much of that time. He went to nearly all of the home games, often letting the referees know when they were wrong. Bud never met a dessert he did not like. Square, cake, or pie, Bud was up for a try.

Bud was predeceased by his mother and father, his siblings, Eugene, Margaret, and Leslie, as well as his daughter, Karen. Bud is survived by his wife, Doris, his children, Dennis and his wife Dianne Bowden, Rick and his wife Gina Bowden, his grandchildren, Andrew Bowden, Danielle Neal, and her husband Ben Neal, and Ryan Bowden, and his great-grandchildren Brooke Bowden, Olivia Neal, and Kira Neal.

Due to gathering limitations set by the state, a private service will be held in early June. Immediate family members will be contacted with details.

In lieu of flowers, please send gifts in memory of Bud to Veterans Home of Bangor, 44 Hogan Rd, Bangor, ME 04401, or Honor Flight Maine, P.O. Box 1770, Portland, Maine 04104-1770
