BANGOR – William L. “Bill” Carr, 88, passed away peacefully December 6, 2022, at a local nursing home. He was born April 17, 1934, in Stillwater, the son of William and Mary (Long) Carr.
Bill graduated from Old Town High School, Class of 1952. Shortly after graduating, he married Rebecca Alexander on July 3, 1953. Bill also served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he worked at the University of Maine, Orono, as the Dairy Farm Supervisor for many years. In his later years, he started his own lawn care business in the Milbridge area. After retirement, he and Becky built a home in Steuben, fulfilling their dream of living on the coast.
Bill was an animal lover with a particular fondness for his beloved German Shepherds, Duska, Lacey and Cammy. He enjoyed playing cards, ping pong and badminton. It made him very happy to sing songs and hymns.
Bill is survived by his sisters-in-law, Beth Carr, Bobbi Curtis and her husband, David; brother-in-law, Bruce Leighton and his wife, Linda; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Rebecca; siblings, Edith (Carr) Dalton, Frank Carr and Margaret Carr; and brother-in-law, Steve Leighton.
Bill’s family would like to thank the caring and loving staff at Maine Veterans’ Home. They would also like to thank the staff at Beacon Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
A graveside service will be held in the spring in Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town. Those who wish to remember Bill in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor Activity Fund, 44 Hogan Rd., Bangor, ME 04401.
