William Igoe

BANGOR and BREWER – William “Bill” F. Igoe, 80, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep December 31, 2016 at his home in Brewer. He was born in Boston, MA, November 9th, 1936, the son of the late Thomas and Vera (Ryan) Igoe. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy, on August 27, 1955 and just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

Bill, or “Papa” to many, was a kind and generous man who loved helping people. He was a former member of the Bangor Jaycees and Brewer Kiwanis. He was outgoing and friendly and loved meeting new people, both locally and in his children’s communities. He was called a friend by many. He will be especially missed by his golfing buddies. He loved playing golf and traveling to see family. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving with the 59th Engineer Company at Fort Ord, CA as well as a brief tour in Munich, Germany. He worked as a master electrician and was blessed to be self-employed for the last 30 years.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Dorothy “Betty” Igoe, his children Debbie Igoe Bruns and her husband Bud of Bangor, William Igoe Jr. and his wife Janet of Wilton, Jeff Igoe of Bangor, Karen Milbrath and her husband Steve of Eden Prairie, MN, and Scott Igoe and his wife Dawn of Altoona, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew, James, Nathan, Katie, Maddie, Dalton, Delaney, and Dylan, his great grand-daughter Hayleigh, as well as many nieces and nephews and his beloved cousin Barbara Hafenstein of Bakersfield, CA. He was preceded in death by his sisters Winifred Zanca, Eleanor Lenfest, Phyllis Igoe and his brother James Igoe.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor with Pastor Michael Lynn of the West Hampden Baptist Church officiating. The family invites relatives and friends for a joyful celebration at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, immediately following the service Wednesday. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at Brookings-Smith.com.
