BANGOR - William B. “Bill” Swales, 70, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 with his wife and his son by his side. He was born February 14, 1954, in Houlton, Maine, to Noreen (MacEachern) and Palmer Swales.
Bill grew up in Houlton and Brewer and attended high school in Massachusetts. He graduated from Acton - Boxborough Regional High School. He went on to get his Bachelor's Degree from UMass Amherst, his JD from Western New England College of Law and his LLM from Boston University.
Bill practiced law in Houlton with his brother, Brian for several years before going to work at Key Bank in their Trust and Investment department until 1997.
Bill joined Bangor Savings Bank in 1997. During his career there, he served as Chief Risk Officer, Risk Manager and General Counsel. He loved his work, his colleagues and told everybody that this was the best place he had ever worked.
Bill loved politics, football and had a great sense of humor. He was a doting husband and wonderful partner and best friend to his wife. He was a great dad and spent countless hours reading Harry Potter, playing video games and building and launching rockets when Jim was young. He also was known to give lots and lots of advice.
Bill leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Joann; son, Jim and his fiancée, Taylor, and his grandchildren, Charli, William and Richard. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his three brothers, Norman, Brian and James.
