William Van Buskirk

FORT FAIRFIELD and BREWER, ME - William T. "Bill" Van Buskirk Jr., 74, passed away Monday morning, August 19, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in 1949, in Fort Fairfield, the first-born child of William and Norma (Bubar) Van Buskirk. Bill enjoyed life growing up in Fort Fairfield and had many stories featuring the antics he got into with friends and uncles who were more like brothers.

After high school Bill joined the United States Navy, where he spent four years proudly serving his country. Upon returning home, Bill followed in his father’s footsteps becoming a firefighter. It was back in Fort Fairfield that he met Sylvia "Sam" Michaud, in 1981. They married on July 25, 1985, going on to enjoy 39 years of marriage while raising their son, Tobin. Bill served his country once again while working as a firefighter at Loring Air Force Base. After the base closed, they moved to Brewer so he could continue his career in Winter Harbor before retiring with 25 years of service. After retiring as a firefighter, Bill went on to work another 20+ years for John T Cyr & Sons before retiring completely in 2023.

Bill was predeceased by his parents and other family members who have passed before him. He is survived by his wife, Sam; son, Tobin Van Buskirk and his wife, Ashley; daughter, Renee "Missy" Michaud and her family, son, Karl Kratina and his wife, Laura and their family; one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Lester Milton and their family as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

In accordance with Bill's wishes, services will be private for the family. The family asks those who wish to honor Bill's life make a donation in his memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
